Juicer or blender: What’s the difference?

Have you been in someone’s kitchen and wondering why they have two or more juicers or two or more blenders? Take a closer look at them again. You will find out that they are of different kind. Perhaps, one is a juicer and the other one is a blender. Not because they both crush the fruits or the vegetables, they are already all blenders or they are all juicers. There are distinctions between a juicer and a blender.

Blender from the word “blend”, one can say, that it blends something. To be specific, a blender is an electrically powered kitchen appliance that is used to soften the fruit or vegetable to make it semi solid. While juicer is derived from the word “juice” so more likely, it makes juice. It is an appliance that is used to extract the juice out from the fruit or vegetable. However, there are other important variations that they have aside from their word derivation. Let us go into something deeper about the difference between the two. The following are the disparities that you can see:

  1. Physical appearance. The first thing that you will notice is their dissimilarity in appearance. The juicer has two compartments – the upper and the lower. When the fruits are put inside the juicer, the fruit skins remain on the upper part of the machine. On the other hand, the blender has a rotating blend that mixes all the ingredients to make the lumpy fruit into a smooth consistency.
  2. Juice and Flesh Separation. In juicer, the juice is being separated to its fibers. The blender crushes and breaks down all what you have placed inside the machine. It will mix everything that you put in such as the seeds, skin, and flesh. All of it are combined and not separated as what the juicer does.
  3. Water content. Blender is the better machine to use than the juicer if the fruit or vegetable that will be mixed are of low water content. This kind of fruit will blend together if they are in the blender because of the rotating blade that it has. If this low water content fruit and vegetable are used in juicer, they will not produce a good result. The fruits and vegetables with high water content is preferred to be used in the juicer because it will produce a straight juice without pulp or solid fruit mixed with it.
  4. Difference in Purpose. How the machine works is also among the dissimilarities of the juicer and the blender. The juicer does not crush the fruits or the vegetables. Rather, it extracts them to produce a nutritional juice. If you place the tomato in the juicer, you can have a tomato juice without the seeds, skin, and pulp. However, if you put it in the blender, there is much difference and you may not likely to have a taste of it since everything is mixed in there such as the juice, seeds, skin, and pulp. This is because the blender has a chopping device that is composed of rotating blades, which crush anything you placed inside.
